Enhancing professional opportunities for deaf
The strategic aim of our project is to strengthen the employability of hearing impaired people throughout Europe in the area of nursing and elderly care.
Background
While in some countries deaf and hearing impaired people make a successful career and participate in social life, in other countries, especially in South Eastern Europe, there are hardly any opportunities for social and professional integration. Employment opportunities are often limited to low-skilled vacancies (or sometimes even no-show jobs) and therefore financially and content-wise unattractive.

Due to this fact and based on the various experiences of the partnership in the field of inclusion and employment of people with disabilities, in particular, six organisations from Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, Romania, Lithuania joined forces and started the ๐๐๐ฃ๐ (๐๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐๐ ๐๐ผ ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ฎ๐ธ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ณ๐ฒ๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ณ) project, working on investigation ย of learning opportunities and employability for people with hearing disabilities in caretaking and nursing professions.

WHAT WE DO
During the project the consortium proceeds the following steps, using different instruments:
- analysis of the current situation in the field of nursing and caretaking, market offers and demands in that field, to identify common legislative, normative and procedural descriptors of the profession of the partner countries
- analysis of the current situation of employability of deaf and hearing impaired people with special focus on young persons (between the ages of 18 and 35), to identify the scope and thematic paths of skill-based training programs for the hearing impaired students with the special attention to health industry
- analysis of the existing education and training possibilities for deaf and hard of hearing in nursing and caretaking
- evaluation of weaknesses and strong points of existing training programs
- provide deaf and hearing impaired people with basic knowledge of job opportunities in the field of nursing and caretaking for evaluating their general interest in that field
- develop a brief outline for a future blended learning training course for deaf, taking into account their specific characteristics and adapt this outline with a number of European countries involved in the project
- to investigate possible ways for transnational mobility of skilled people with hearing impairments.
Besides the theoretical part, the practical site visits to different organisation organized by the project partners will supply the consortium with the additional information and provide new expert contacts.
